My Life In The Army

Beneficiary: Mr. Lee, aged 97
Wish journey: 2020-12-21

Mr. Lee was born and grew up in Johnsbury, South Africa in 1920s. After a fight with a white man about racial
discrimination, he took the advice to join the army in China to resist the invading Japanese. He was trained at the famous Whampoa Military Academy as an officer. But he only fought in one battle with the surrender of the Japanese.

He later came to HK to raise his family and joined the British Military Engineering squad. He eventually joined the HK Customs. After retirement, he brought a house along the seaside and ran his sampan leasing business. As he grew older, he wanted to record his story to pass on to his family.

Volunteers took time to interview and wrote his story. It was a pity that he could not see the published book as he died shortly after the interview.
