Mrs. Leung went through many hard times in her life. She wished to use her experience to encourage her daughter and son in the form of a booklet called “Words To My Dearest “.
Mrs. Leung was born in Macau and was the youngest among her 7 siblings. When she came to Hong Kong at 8. Not surprisingly, she could not catch up and was beaten very often.
3 years later, her father passed away. She had to work in a plastics factory by using her elder sister’s ID card to cover up child labour.
When Mrs. Leung was around 20, she married a cripple man, who had a son in his previous marriage. She later gave birth to her daughter.
Her husband required regular blood transfusion treatment and eventually was infected with AIDS. The couple is afraid that the illnesses would lead to being discriminated. They did not reveal the truth until their children grew up.
Mrs. Leung had no choice but to go out to work to earn a living for the family. Unfortunately, Sher was later diagnosed with blood cancer during a body checkup.
The had son graduated from Harvard University to be a medical doctor. Her daughter graduated from the University of Hong Kong and became an investment banker.
Mrs. Leung just hoped that she could record her experiences in a booklet and let her children know they were beloved. She insisted that the book would be given to her children after death.
BASIC Foundation’s Volunteers worked with a medical social worker in Queen Elizabeth Hospital to fulfill her last wish.
