Rediscover Orchestra Joy

Beneficiary: Mr. Tang, aged 69
Wish journey: December 13, 2021

Mr. Tang is a classical life warrior. He was blind since he was three and worked in a sheltered workshop after graduation from Ebenezer School & Home for the Visually Impaired. He developed a great interest in music and could master different kinds of musical instruments.

He was invited to perform “The Butterfly Lovers” in front of US President George H. W. Bush in The White House. His flute skill had impressed many.

Unfortunately, a recent stroke made him wheelchair bound, and he has severe hearing loss. As a result, he had to move into the care home for the blind.

His dream was to attend a live orchestra performance with his younger sister before it was too late.

When BASIC Foundation volunteers heard this from Yuen Long Home for the Aged Blind, we took action immediately.

We arranged Mr. Tang and his sister to attend a Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra performance in Xiqu Centre, West Kowloon Cultural district before Christmas.

Mr. Tang enjoyed the whole journey. Although the stroke affected his expression, his excitement and happiness were well written on his face.
